Maruti Suzuki is no doubt the largest-selling brand in India. From 2011 to 2020, the company has been consecutively leading the automotive sector in terms of growth.  

Regarding Maruti’s product portfolio, the car manufacturer boasts of a wide range of successful models across various segments, ranging from hatchbacks to sedans. Some of the Maruti vehicles that made their presence to the list of top cars in India (by November 2020) include the Swift, the Baleno, the Wagon R, the Alto, and the Swift Dzire.

Talking about the upcoming Maruti SUV, the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny was initially premiered in India in 2018. However, the model was only officially showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 back in February this year. Right on its first introduction, the new Suzuki Jimny has quickly grabbed the attention of domestic car lovers and become one of the most-awaited Maruti SUV cars. Here’s a quick glance at the all-new Suzuki Jimny.

New Suzuki Jimny: Exterior

Visually, the new Suzuki Jimny is expected to boast of a rugged and stylish look with a new premium black treatment as seen on its global-spec version. In particular, the India-spec Jimny is likely to bring in a stylish five-slot matte-black grille, a premium black front bumper, an iconic black roof, and a newly-added set of black five-spoke alloy wheels. On top of that, the forthcoming Jimny will also witness some minor tweaks regarding the headlamps and fog lamps to add a bit of premium-ness.

While the international-spec Jimny comes in a 3-door avatar, it is yet to be known whether a 3-door or 5-door avatar will be seen in the India-spec model.

New Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Interior

Inside, the upcoming Suzuki Jimny will bring in an all-black cabin to match with the outside treatment. The new-gen Maruti SUV is also expected to come equipped with a host of the latest features and comforts such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and cruise control, keyless entry, engine start-stop button, automatic headlamps, and more. Besides, Maruti will also provide its new   SUV with standard safety features including dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

New Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Performance

Under the hood, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be powered by either a 0.66-litre turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol or a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine. Both units will be mated to a 5-speed manual and get a choice of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Notably, while the global-spec version of the Jimny is available in a standard 4x4 powertrain, it is expected that the upcoming India-spec Jimny will come with a 4x2 option.

The India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to arrive at around Rs 8 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, New Delhi) by March 2021. If launched, it will mostly rival the Mahindra Thar in the premium SUV segment.
