3 Most Awaited Tata Upcoming SUV Cars

Considering the growing demand for SUVs in India, Tata Motors has decided to seize the opportunity to fulfill its dream of being the segment leader. It is explained by the fact that the domestic automaker is set to launch a series of new SUVs within the next few years. Here, we list out the top three most-awaited Tata upcoming SUV cars in India in 2021.

1. Tata Gravitas

Expected Launched: April 2021

Expected Price: Rs. 20 lakh

Tata Gravitas is the first model to make its presence in the list of the long-awaited Tata upcoming SUV cars. Revealed at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020,  the new SUV is said to be the longer, taller and sportier version of the Harrier SUV. While the Gravitas resembles its cousin in many ways, the 7-seater SUV is likely to get some slight tweaks regarding the LED DRLs, the front bumper, and the auto-dimming IRVM. Besides, it will get a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels as well. Inside the cabin, the Tata SUV will continue to come equipped with a long list of modern features, including an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 9-speaker audio system, automatic air conditioning, and more.

Powering the Tata Gravitas will be an upgraded BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine mated to a 6-speed MT as standard. Moreover, it will also get a choice of a 6-speed AT. With this diesel unit, the Tata upcoming Tata SUV can produce 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque.

The Tata Gravitas is set to be launched by April 2021. With an estimated price of a premium Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new SUV is likely to challenge the likes of the MG Hector Plus, the new-gen Mahindra XUV500, and the upcoming 7-seater Hyundai Creta.

2. Tata Hexa Safari Edition

Expected Launched: January 2021

Expected Price: Rs. 14 lakh

The facelifted version of the Tata Hexa called Tata Hexa Safari Edition is among the most-anticipated upcoming Tata SUV cars in India in 2021. While the BS4-compliant Hexa was discontinued under the stricter BS6 emission norms, Tata Motors made its announcement at the Auto Expo 2020 that they would revive the 7-seater SUV sometime later. In a recently spied testing, it is likely that the upcoming Hexa Safari Edition will witness some minor modifications in the headlamps, taillights, and interiors while the rest design will remain unchanged.

Performance-wise, the Tata Hexa 2021 will ditch the outdated BS4-compliant units and use the new BS6 engine instead. Tata will offer the new 4x4 SUV with a 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine mated to a 5-speed MT, a 6-speed MT, and a 6-speed AT. This new diesel unit will allow the vehicle to churn out two separate tunes, either 150PS of power and 320Nm or 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque at peak.

The Tata Hexa Safari Edition will be launched in early 2021 at an estimated price of Rs. 14.00 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

3. Tata HBX Micro SUV

Expected Launched: March 2021

Expected Price: Rs. 8 lakh

The next candidate in the list of upcoming Tata SUV cars is the Tata HBX, the pre-production of Tata's sub-4-meter micro SUV. Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020, the HBX was confirmed to be 90 percent resembling the actual production model, which will arrive early next year. The upcoming Tata mini SUV actually takes inspiration from the H2X platform showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It is also expected to employ Tata's ALFA architecture and the Impact 2.0 design. In particular, the Tata HBX will come with the Harrier-inspired split headlamp setup with DRLs placed on top of the main lighting units. Besides, Tata will also add to its first micro SUV a host of latest features and new-age tech, including a roof-mounted spoiler, full-LED tail lamps, a set of chunky-looking alloy wheels, best-in-class connectivity features, and a highly-capable infotainment system, among others.

Under the hood, the HBX is expected to share a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine with its siblings, the Tiago and the Altroz. With this petrol unit, the upcoming Tata smallest SUV can put out 85BHP of power and 110Nm of torque. Transmission-wise, it is expected to be available with both manual and automatic gearbox.

 As a micro SUV, the Tata HBX is likely to come at an affordable price of 8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Upon its launch by March 2021, the new Tata micro vehicle will take on the likes of the Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and even the S-Presso.
