Ever since its first entrance to India back in 2009, the Toyota Fortuner has been one of the largest-selling SUV cars in the segment. Despite being fairly highly-priced, it remains to be dearly loved by domestic car enthusiasts.  The Fortuner's success may root from its majestic exterior and interior,    superb off-road performance. Its exceptionally high sales tally is also thanks to the Japanese automaker's continuous efforts to enhance the model so that it always looks fresh and trendy.

The second-gen Toyota Fortuner arrived in 2016

After 11 years of its launch, the Fortuner has a total of two generations. While the first generation helped Toyota acquire 75% of the market share in the segment, exceeding the initial target of 50%, the second-gen arrived in 2016 to keep up with the new trend and industry requirements. Up to now, the Toyota model has undergone quite a lot of upgrades. In the coming year of 2021, the Japanese carmaker is likely to introduce the facelift version of the Fortuner SUV.

Exterior

Visually, the Toyota facelift will come with revised bumpers along with some tweaks in the rear LED headlamps and LED tail lamps. Moreover, the Indian-spec one is expected to bring a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels as spotted in the Thailand-spec Fortuner in its forthcoming avatar.

Interior

Inside, the new Fortuner SUV will continue to boast of the well-equipped cabin seen on the current version. Toyota will also offer the facelift a host of new features, tech, and electronics such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new instrument cluster, among others. 

Performance

Under the hood, the Toyota Fortuner facelift will be powered by the same BS6-compliant petrol and diesel options as the existing model. In particular, the petrol engine will be a 2.7-litre unit that can churn out 166 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel one will be a 2.8-litre unit that can produce 117 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. Moreover, the 2021 Fortuner facelift is also expected to bring in a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel motor that can make 204 PS and 500 Nm as seen in the Thai-spec.

Talking about transmission, the facelifted Fortuner will be offered with either a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual gearbox.  Specifically, the petrol unit will come equipped with a 5-speed MT, the diesel will come paired to a 6-speed MT. Apart from that, both engine versions will also get an optional automatic transmission.

3. Upcoming Toyota Fortuner 2021 estimated price and expected launch date

The Toyota Fortuner facelift will be rolled out by early 2021 with an estimated price from Rs 29 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Delhi). If launched, it is likely to take on the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, MG Gloster, VW Tiguan Allspace, and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
